Image Resolution

Setting up your images to the proper resolution is very important to the success of your document printing. An image with too low of a resolution will look pixelated and an image with too high of a resolution will cause excessive Rip time and may cause other problems as well. Setting your images to the proper resolution is a fairly easy task and helps assure that your job gets printed on time and on budget.

All your images should be set for 100% at 300 dpi.

Setting Resolution in Photoshop

- Open your image in Photoshop (or equivalent program)
- Under Image select "Image Size" from menu
- Check the current image size. If the image is already set at 300 dpi you're all set as far as proper resolution is concerned. If your image is at a resolution other than 300 dpi you will need to change it.
- To change your resolution, first (and this step is very important) you must uncheck the Resample Image Box and than simply change the resolution to 300 dpi.
- NOTE: Changing the resolution to 300 dpi will also change the Height and Width measurements... this is ok! However if your image dimensions are now too small for your document you will need to find a higher resolution image to use.

| NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU UP SCALE YOUR IMAGE! What this means is that if you have a 5" x 7" image at 72 dpi, you CANNOT up scale it to a 5" x 7" image at 300 dpi. A 5" x 7" image at 72 dpi will only be 1.2" x 1.68" at 300 dpi. |
